Zachary Lane is a native Nebraskan; a small town kid who has always had a big imagination. A family vacation to a battle!eld sparked his interest in the Civil War. The ‘old shed’ in his back yard soon became an officer’s quarters or a fort. Lane fueled his imagination by reading books about this epic war that pitted brother against brother. His personal library is filled with books. Lots and lots of books. So many books that an ultimatum has been issued in the Lane household—if a new book comes in, an older one must be boxed up and put on a shelf in the garage.
Zachary began writing seriously after visiting a rest stop near Sidney, Nebraska. Observing and reading a historical marker overlooking the railroad and town in valley below set his imagination free to tell the story of life there in the 1860’s and 1870’s.
He still lives in Nebraska where he enjoys walks with his wife, playing with grandchildren, grilling on summer’s evenings, smoking ribs and pork butts and stretching his imagination by writing new stories about early Nebraska.
